The announcement of Wells College’s closing has undoubtedly left you with many questions as you look to finish your academic degree.
While we understand your disappointment in the circumstances that have brought us together, we hope to be able to help you continue your academic pursuits and meet your goals with as little disruption as possible. Elmira College has a long history of close, supportive relationships with its students, and we want you to know that our staff and administration stands ready to support you as you transfer to EC and finish your collegiate journey.
And, we're pleased to extend our Soaring Eagles Take Flight Initiative to Wells College students who qualify. Under this program, Elmira College will cover out-of-pocket costs for undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees for eligible incoming undergraduate New York State students, with a family AGI of $50,000 per year or less.. That’s free tuition for New York State residents to attend a premier private college.
EC offers a transition process for you that is streamlined and simplified compared to the traditional transfer application. In fact, there is no formal application. Your enrollment and good standing at Wells College is sufficient to ensure your acceptance to Elmira College and our registrar’s office will expedite the review of your transcripts. All you need to do is follow the steps below and we’ll keep you notified of our progress on reviewing your transcripts and awarding your financial aid.

Elmira College offers one of the lowest tuition prices of any four-year private college or university in the region. In addition, nearly 100% of our students receive some form of financial aid.
It’s easy to connect on Elmira College’s small, scenic campus. Hang with your friends at MacKenzie’s, check out our Theatre department’s latest production in the Gibson Theatre, or try to crush a home run during Term III softball. Located in the Southern Finger Lakes region, there is plenty to do outside of campus as well.
Elmira College athletics have created a tradition of success, including six national championships. Sixteen Division III teams represent the Soaring Eagles on the field, ice, mats, and court. And with a new turf field project moving forward, we are excited to welcome back men’s and women’s lacrosse for the 2024-2025 season.

What tuition and fees will I pay?
If you plan to transfer to EC as a full-time student, you will be eligible for transfer scholarships, talent awards, and additional need-based aid based on your qualifications. You could also be considered for the Take Flight program if you meet the eligibility requirements and enroll for the Fall 2024 term.
Will my financial aid package transfer?
Our Financial Aid team will work with you to determine your financial aid package. Wells students are eligible to receive scholarships and financial aid, including need-based grants. To apply for all aid available through Elmira College, incoming students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with institution code 002718. Students will receive notification of their 2024-25 financial aid awards from Elmira College. Students will also be eligible to apply for undergraduate level federal and state aid (e.g., Pell, TAP). Our Admission and Financial Aid teams will work in tandem with you throughout your transition process to ensure you are maximizing the amount of gift aid available to you.
When are my transfer materials due to Elmira?
There is no formal deadline. We understand that this is an important decision and invite you to take the time you need to work through the transfer process. We’ve simplified the process of applying to transition to Elmira and encourage you to provide your materials as soon as possible. Not only will you get your decision sooner, this will also allow our team to help you register for the courses that fulfill your degree requirements.
Will all of my Wells College credits transfer?
Students in good academic standing at Wells College are eligible for admission to a similar program at Elmira. Courses with a grade of C or better will transfer as credit to Elmira. You will work one-on-one with Dr. Dan Kjar to help with the transition.
I’m a student-athlete. Can I compete at Elmira?
EC offers 18 varsity athletics teams, including eight men's and eight women's teams and two co-ed teams. When would I choose my courses for Fall 2024?
Registration for Fall 2024 has begun. We recommend submitting your transfer materials as soon as possible. Once your transfer materials have been submitted, Dr. Kjar will work with you to get registered and provide guidance for the Fall 2024 term and beyond.
Am I guaranteed housing at Elmira?

I’m a senior. What if I can’t get into a course that I need to graduate on time in Spring 2025?
We give priority to seniors to complete their coursework on time.
What’s the easiest way to check out the campus?
Whether or not you’ve completed the transition form, campus visits can be arranged through our visitation page. During your visit you’ll be able to sit in on a class, meet with current students from your program of interest, and connect with available faculty within your major.
